Radio Broadland - History of Independent Local Radio UK

A short history of the book about the history of commercial radio in the UK

"A chronological but colourful journey through radio's life, right from the start, peppered with contemporary stories and anecdotes from people in the industry today and those that have made radio the industry it is today".

David Harber is a broadcaster, producer and former station owner and manager. He is passionately fanatical about radio.

The book "History of Commercial Radio in the UK"  encapsulates as much of the history of commercial radio as is possible in a handful of pages.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Independent Local Radio in the UK (the term "Commercial Radio" was far too vulgar to use), this book goes back beyond LBC, beyond Caroline and beyond Luxembourg; in fact it goes back to the very beginning of wireless telephony and wireless telegraphy but is spiced with human stories that have influenced the commercial radio industry as we know it today.

This is a chronological journey through the history of our industry spiced with personal accounts from people instrumental in the inception and development of commercial radio.  Having acquired endless stories about how radio developed as an advertising medium, this is radio's story - with a light-hearted look at the people, decisions and problems that faced and continues to face the growth of commercial radio.

I am still looking for contributors to help compile the book. If you have a first hand account, story or photograph you wish to share, please do get in contact, using the form, on the contact page

The stations, people and places are paramount to this chronological journey, but the real interest is in the numerous asides that contributors have given which make this more than a history book.

You will soon be able to pre-order copies of the book through this site.
